As all Dolphin rowers know, the row isn’t over until the boats are back in the boathouse, cleaned and dried. We did our duty, put these wonderful craft back in their places, and then posed for one last photo. We really were as tired as we look. The 2014 Sac Row was a exceptional event, with well matched boats, good weather, perfect tides, fun company, and loads of support from friends and family along the way. Thanks to all. It all went just as planned or better. A classic.

Of course there are many stories that are not told in this photo essay (because there are no photos). Stories of the Hughes run “up a pole” or was it “a piling”? … something like that. I’m sure the nearby fisherman were amused to see all three rowers crowded together in a clutch at the very peak of the bow. And we haven’t told of Paul’s hourly trips to the bow, where, kneeling as if in prayer, he made “an offering to the river gods”. It seems to have worked, The river treated us very well. And we haven’t told of how a three day discussion of organic chemistry makes the miles fly by… We’ll save those tales for another time….
